Ukrainian Railway Hit by Cyberattack Disrupting Ticket Sales

Cybersecurity

Ukraine's state-owned railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, reported a significant cyberattack on Monday, causing disruption to online ticket sales, including those made through its mobile app. Despite the attack, the railway operator assured the public that train services were continuing as scheduled.

According to their statement on Telegram, while the online systems were affected, the core operational functions remained intact. Trains are running on time, and all traffic management processes are secured with backup systems. This ensured minimal impact on passengers' travel plans.

Daryna Antoniuk, reporting from Kyiv's central station, noted unusually long queues as people opted to purchase tickets in person. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces in maintaining critical infrastructure amidst cyber threats.

Ukrzaliznytsia advised passengers who couldn't purchase tickets online or at the ticket office to board the train directly, indicating a flexible approach to accommodate travelers during the disruption.
