Discord Redesigns Desktop App with Enhanced Customization
Discord is rolling out a redesigned desktop app, bringing a wave of customization features to enhance the user experience. Get ready for more themes, UI density options, and a revamped overlay!
More Themes for Everyone
Previously, non-Nitro users were limited to light and dark themes. Now, everyone can choose from four options: light, ash, dark, and onyx. Enjoy more dark themes without needing a subscription.
Discord has also introduced three new UI density options: default, spacious, and compact. These options, separate from the existing message layout settings, allow you to personalize the interface to your liking.
Resizing and Enhanced Voice Controls
You can finally resize the channel list! Discord has also redesigned the voice and video call controls, placing essential buttons in the center bar at the bottom of the screen. The mic and camera buttons now have clearer color indicators.
"All of these updates are meant to enhance legibility, reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed by visual noise, and maintain consistency across desktop and mobile devices," Discord explains.
Revamped Overlay
The new overlay is faster and won't affect game performance. Drawing inspiration from Steam, Discord has reworked the interface around widgets, allowing you to move each element as needed. The re-engineered overlay is less likely to trigger anti-cheat systems, making it compatible with more games. You can even watch a friend's stream directly from the new overlay.
Focus on Gamers
These updates reflect Discord's renewed focus on gamers. After briefly rebranding as a general-purpose chat app, Discord is now committed to being the best communication tool for gamers.
According to a recent New York Times report, Discord might go public soon. With a large percentage of users actively gaming on PC, these updates aim to prioritize their experience.
