Find My Device: Friend-Tracking Made Easy!

Mobile Apps

Hey Android users, Google's just made it a whole lot easier to keep tabs on your loved ones (with their permission, of course!). The Find My Device app is getting a sweet update that adds a "People" tab. Think of it as your own personal, Google-powered buddy tracker!

Remember that announcement from the March Pixel Drop? Well, it's finally here! As 9to5Google cleverly spotted, the update is rolling out now, bringing a much more user-friendly way to see where your trusted contacts are.

What's the big deal?

Basically, the "People" tab shows you the real-time locations of people who've shared their location with you, and vice versa. No more endless scrolling through Google Maps! You'll see their location on a map, along with a handy list detailing their current address, how far away they are from you, and when their location was last updated. Super convenient, right?

Why This Matters

Sure, Google Maps already has location sharing. But this update puts everything in one easy-to-find place within the Find My Device app. It's a cleaner, more straightforward presentation that makes it a breeze to manage your location sharing and keep an eye on your inner circle.

The new tab lets you quickly toggle between contacts who are sharing their location with you and those you're sharing your location with. Plus, you can switch Google accounts or tweak your Location Sharing settings directly from the app. Talk about streamlining!

This update is a big step in bringing Google's Find My Device service closer to the functionality of Apple's Find My app. It's been almost a year since Google launched Find My Device, and it’s great to see them continuing to improve and refine the experience.
