DuckDuckGo's Subscription: Access to Advanced AI Chatbots from OpenAI and Anthropic
DuckDuckGo has been quietly offering AI chatbot access directly through its browser since last summer. This feature, dubbed Duck.ai, lets you play around with AI models like GPT-4o mini and Claude 3.5 Haiku without compromising your privacy. And judging by the looks of it, people are really digging it.
Now, DuckDuckGo is doubling down on this, re-centering its Privacy Pro subscription around access to beefier AI models from the likes of OpenAI and Anthropic.
The price remains the same – either $10 a month or $100 annually. You're still getting all the goodies that came with the package before. The main change? It's now simply called the DuckDuckGo subscription. Besides the VPN, personal information removal, and identity protection services, you'll get to use some of the hottest models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta.
What's Included?
We are talking about GPT-4o, GPT-5 , Sonnet 4.0 and Llama 4 Maverick. And here's the kicker: any chats you have with these chatbots through DuckDuckGo are totally anonymized. Your data won't be used to train future AI systems, which is a big win for privacy advocates like me.
According to DuckDuckGo, they're expanding Duck.ai to give subscribers access to more advanced AI models, all while maintaining those strong privacy protections. The base version of Duck.ai isn't going anywhere; it's still free and doesn't require an account.
If you're not feeling the AI love, no sweat! DuckDuckGo lets you hide all those AI buttons in its browser's search, desktop, and mobile settings. That said, the company's hinting at the possibility of higher subscription tiers in the future, potentially offering access to even more advanced AI models. It's an interesting move, and I'm curious to see where they take it.
